One of the toughest & best challenge trophy events in the uk?
Organised by Csw & sponsered by Devon 4x4. This year nr Plymouth.
Two days & one night of pure adrenaline, 3 weeks of blood & sweat preparing.
The format was similar to last year with a few differences. Saturday was 9hrs (!!) of special stages then back to camp for a hog roast followed by 5 short night stages. Sunday was a leisurly 5 1/2hrs of punches & stages.
We started off badly blowing a water hose on the second stage on Saturday. In my eagerness I had forgotten to turn the electric fan on, Paul had to fetch water from a river to allow us to continue. That was followed on the 4th stage with us getting hung up on a big log & snapping the front winch mainshaft. On pulling ourselves off that it proceded to rip the steering guard off! 6mm plate bent in half! Luckily I was carrying a spare mainshaft & we were able to carry on (guard less).
The rest of Saturday was fairly unaventfull with no more breakages or mishaps. We completed all but 2 or 3 of the stages with some good but no brilliant times. The night stages were great fun as ever but my favorite was the slalom around the straw bails.
I thought Sunday was a bit slow for us, we seemed to be struggling a bit not getting that many punches.
At the prize giving we had no fastest stage times so thought our concerns of a bad weekend were founded. The standard class places were called first followed by modified. 3rd Jason Far, 2nd Roger Pardy!!! Well my jaw hit the ground.
Given the standard of competition a fantastic achievement. Paul was a star pushing me hard & running around all weekend.
